Director Hayao Miyazaki will receive the "Honorary Golden Lion Award" at the coming 62nd Venice Film Festival, which is scheduled in August to September this year. It is expected that Miyazaki will attend the ceremony. During the Film Festival, there will be a "Miyazaki Day" on 9th September and the movies of the director will be screened.

Kiki's Delivery Service is becoming an English-language film at Walt Disney Pictures. Screenwriter Jeff Stockwell has been hired to write the new Kiki screenplay based on Eiko Kadano's books. Scottish producer Susan Montford recently teamed with partner Don Murphy to secure the rights. They will produce on Kiki with Mark Gordon. Buena Vista Motion Picture Group topper Nina Jacobson, who bought the project preemptively, will oversee it with theatrical production exec Jason Reed.

Japan's box office received a 3.8% boost last year, with ticket sales worth 211bn yen. The surge was led by animated movie Howl's Moving Castle, which took 20bn yen to become the biggest film in Japan in 2004.
